What that noise usually means
- Clunking over bumps: worn control arm bushings, ball joints, sway bar links or struts.
- Clicking when you turn: a worn outer CV axle joint.
- Humming or growling that gets louder with speed: a worn wheel bearing or hub.
- Bouncing, nose-diving when braking, or leaning in turns: worn struts or shocks.
- Uneven tire wear or a car that wanders: worn steering or suspension parts.
Struts in pairs
Struts are usually replaced in pairs on the same axle, front or rear, so the car handles evenly. That's why the pair price is $200 instead of $220.
Get an alignment afterward
Replacing struts, control arms or tie-rod parts changes the wheel alignment. Alignment is not included and needs a shop with an alignment machine. Getting one soon after protects your tires.
